Last updated: January 1, 2026
Overview
FileDive is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your files and search activities should remain completely private. This Privacy Policy explains how FileDive handles your data.
Key Privacy Points:
- All processing happens locally on your device
- Your files never leave your computer
- No data is transmitted to external servers
- No analytics or tracking is implemented
1. Data Collection
What We Don't Collect
FileDive does NOT collect:
- Your files or file contents
- Search queries or search history
- Personal information
- Usage statistics or analytics
- Device identifiers or hardware information
- Location data
- Any telemetry data
Local Data Storage
FileDive stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Search Index: A database of indexed file contents stored in SQLite format
- Vector Embeddings: AI-generated vectors for semantic search stored in LanceDB
- User Preferences: Theme settings, language preferences, and folder configurations
All this data remains on your local device and is never transmitted elsewhere.
2. Data Processing
Local Processing
All file indexing and search operations are performed entirely on your local device:
- Keyword Search: Uses SQLite FTS5 running locally
- Semantic Search: Uses transformers.js with models running on your device
- File Watching: Monitors file changes using local system APIs
No Cloud Processing
Unlike many AI-powered applications, FileDive does not send your data to cloud services for processing. All AI models run locally using your device's resources.
3. Third-Party Services
FileDive does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The application operates completely offline once installed.
4. Data Security
Since all data remains on your device, the security of your data depends on your device's security measures. We recommend:
- Keeping your operating system updated
- Using strong device passwords
- Enabling full-disk encryption
- Regular security backups
5. Data Deletion
You can delete all FileDive data at any time by:
- Removing indexed folders from the application
- Uninstalling the application (which removes all local databases)
- Manually deleting the application's data directory
6. Children's Privacy
FileDive does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
